Website Content is (Still) King!

Years ago, we used to tell clients, “Content is King!”, and to always make sure you add relevant, fresh content regularly to your website, and be consistent.

This is still very much the case today, if not more so. The type, and style, of website content, may be changing but the fundamental principles remain the same, post often and consistently.

The Importance of Content

Where do we start!? Well, content is probably the most important aspect of your digital marketing campaign.

Content helps you build and maintain trust with your target audience and is the foundation upon which you promote your business on-line, so it really is important to understand how valuable your content is.

Build Your Reputation Through Content

Good, and relevant, content is a powerful reputation building tool. In today’s busy digital business arena, it is so important for businesses strive to build trust with their prospective, and existing, customers. We all know how building a trusted “brand” can reap great rewards for a business.

It is also important to keep a close eye on your on-line reputation, monitor it closely and try to negate any negative comments or reviews as quickly as possible.

Great content will really help to enhance your reputation and build trust.

Google and Their Friends, Love Content!

When it comes to SEO (Search Engine Optimisation) there are no quick fixes anymore, and one of the best ways to get Google to sit up and take note of your fantastic website, is to produce regular, amazing content. In return, Google and the other search engines will reward you by ranking you higher up the search results pages.

You want your business to come up at number one position when people search for your type of products or services, right? So give Google every reason to hand you the top spot by showing how good you are at what you do, and content is a key element to do this.

Good Link Building

Producing great content really helps with your marketing as other websites may want to link their web content with yours. Depending on the reputation of the site wating to link with your content, you get increased traffic to your site very quickly.

“Backlinking”, as it is known, also helps with your website ranking with Google etc.  If websites with a good “Page Authority” score and have a high “Domain Authority”, link to your website, this will help promote your brand to Google and raise your ranking level.

Generating New Business

Probably the most important reason of all for spending some time producing good content, to get more business! Not exactly rocket-science as this is the primary reason why we do digital marketing or any marketing for that matter.

These days people will almost always check out your website and see if you are genuine, trustworthy, and capable of giving them what they need.

One personal example of this is when my wife and I were looking to purchase a “Garden Office”, a log cabin to use as our Home Office.

We looked at many websites for this, looking at price, quality, range, and availability but the company we were drawn to most was one that had a lot of really useful information about the buildings and how to treat them, how to construct them and how to look after them etc.

Have a look at their website and see for yourself the quality and quantity of their articles, and also the way they are written is both informative and entertaining! Developing your “tone of voice” is also really important when producing content.

What we loved about this company was that they obviously knew what they were talking about and they were generous with their impartial advice and information and in no way do they come across as “salesy” but just a good, down-to-earth and knowledgeable company.

Content Will Reign for a Long Time

So, in conclusion, we must say that Content will be King for a long while. The clamor for business during the recent Covid situation means increasing competition, higher stakes, and the need to keep on top of the game.

We often say to clients that their competitors’ websites are just a click away! So make sure you are doing all you can to stay ahead of the curve.

Online content marketing may well be the deciding factor in a business’s success or failure, it must not be underestimated.

In our next blog we will talk about the different types of content that are important in today’s digital marketing scene and how to effectively use your website to promote your content and your business.
